Thesis subject
Gene-editing in livestock and crops: Framing and responsibility
Which frames are used for the application of gene-editing in livestock and crops? And: How is responsibility configured (differently) in these frames?
The project 'Just Editing?' funded by NWO is looking at how, if at all, gene-editing livestock could be responsibly embedded in Dutch society. In this project, we noticed big differences in the acceptance of gene-editing applications in plants (by plant scientists) and animals (animal scientists).
The project would benefit from more knowledge on these differences, and how these are configured.
Type of research
Literature review of (natural and social) scientific and grey literature. Fieldwork through interviews with plant scientists, secondary data analysis of interviews with animal scientists.
Type of student
Background in both social and natural sciences is helpful. Broad interest in responsible innovation, agriculture and genetic technologies
