Student for Student: Inspiring students to follow their dream
Interview with (Ex) WUR Students Sanne Swinkels and Laura Grootes, two experienced Student for Student trainers.
Early 2020 they started giving their ‘Vision Board’ workshops, followed by the workshop ‘From Vision to Practice’. What advice do they have for aspiring new Student for Student trainers?
We have something good on our hands
Sanne Swinkels - recently graduated - experienced the power of Vision Boards, making one for herself. “I liked how the creative process guided me in structuring my thoughts and planning my future. During an AIESEC board weekend, I organised my very first vision board workshop. Very laid back, on a Sunday morning. Next year the AIESEC board asked us to give another workshop and that’s how it started.”
Laura Grootes - currently doing a master in Nutrition & Health and Food Technology - “The workshops were very well received and this gave us courage for the next step: ‘We have something good on our hands! Maybe the Uni is interested in our workshop as well’. So, we talked to the people of Surf your Stress. They were immediately interested and really empowered us to put our plans to practice.”
Making an impact
Laura: “Giving these (online) workshops taught me: ‘If you have a good plan, just go ahead and do it’. We received some very sweet thank-you messages from participants that made us think: ‘Wow, we're just standing here in our living room, inspiring fellow students to follow their dream’.”
Sanne:
TIP Laura: Start before you’re ready
What’s on our own vision board?
Sanne: “We are thinking about giving these workshops to companies too. That would mean a different approach, switching from personal, to team interests. It is not our priority yet, but it has a place on our own vision board…
If you have idea’s for a workshop, and would like to discuss it with Sanne and Laura, just contact them via LinkedIn and they are happy to answer your questions.
