Q1 Data Science Research FAT session on AI
AI: opportunity and/or threat? Applying and/or developing?
We all talk about ChatGPT and other big AI models and the possible impact they could have on our research, on our society, and on yourself as a researcher. Together with CSA (Corporate Strategy and Accounts) we organised a FAT (Finding Answers Together) session on AI.
This dialogue was very useful to share how we position this disruptive development. In general, we all agreed that big AI models offer lots of opportunities, but we are unsure if we have the skills in place and if we’re able to evaluate and validate these models (explainable AI) to help us achieving our mission. One idea to tackle this is to develop our own ‘AI evaluation metrics’ or a Test and Experimentation Facility (TEF). Another insight was that WUR may not have the capabilities to develop AI itself, but we are very well suited to adjust and apply AI applications in our domains. So, what do you think? Should AI be a topic in our renewed WUR strategy and, if so, what would our approach be?
