Success factors for low antibiotic use

In order to reduce the use of antibiotics in broiler and veal farming, the "low-hanging fruit" has since been harvested. The focus therefore shifts to critical success factors that can promote the transition to low use. What does Wageningen Livestock Research mean in this?

First analyse the data

The use of antibiotics by livestock farmers is recorded per sector in national databases. These also contain operating and couple characteristics. Analysis of this data and a survey among low and high users of antibiotics provides insight into factors that are related to the use of antibiotics. Both technically and in terms of knowledge, attitude and behaviour.

Pilot with high users

The most promising solutions are applied in a practical pilot with high users. A tool has also been developed with which critical success factors can be placed on the bar of relevance and feasibility. This supports administrators and policy makers in making advice and taking decisions.
