FAQ

Who pays for Open Access?

Open Access is not the same as "free". Costs for production, review and dissemination are often charged to the author when the article is accepted.

These costs are called the Article Processing Charges (APC).

However, there are different ways to ensure that publication costs don’t come as a surprise at the end of a research project.

Go to Open Access agreements and discounts for national and WUR agreements with publishers, as well as information on EU Horizon 2020 funding.

Use the WUR Journal Browser to find the arrangements for specific journals.

When starting a research project, use the Quickstarter for Open Access publishing as a checklist.
