Sinking coastal cities

Many cities and coastal areas around the world are sinking as a result of human influence. Often the current sinking rates are much higher than sea-level rise driven by global warming, making land subsidence a more urgent issues in many coastal zones around the world.

Philip Minderhoud gave an interview in a major Dutch newspaper providing scientific background on what causes cities like Jakarta and coastal areas the world to sink and what can be done about it.
