Rhododendron Festival at Lamperi

Traditional Bhutanese music is very relaxing and peaceful. The rhythms of the songs are much slower compared to those in the Top 40 Hits in the West. In a way, the rhythm of a song can sometimes reflect the way of life.

These school kids danced to a slow Bhutanese song as part of the Third Rhododendron Festival. This festival took place in honour of the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, as pictured behind with two pink flowered rhododendron plants. This place is a nature reserve and park where the locals take care of the forests. The small birds were tweeting in the background and the leaves of the wild trees and bamboo plants were swaying in the gentle breeze.
