Aigul Nazmutdinova – Sales Manager

While studying in Wageningen University you learn how to become a young professional by not just attending the scientific courses but also while participating in cross-cultural projects.

I have successfully obtained my Master Degree in Operations Research and Logistics as a part of Management, Economics, and Consumer Studies. Being always interested in quantitative side of Economics, I have been looking for the particular study programme, where mathematical methods, data analysis and fundamental economic science are combined together. Wageningen University provides such an optimal solution for students all over the world. Important to mention, that Wageningen University has been participating in several scholarship consortiums which gives a priceless possibility for Non-EU students to study in The Netherlands. And I was one of those students who was incredibly grateful to get this ‘meant-to-be’ chance.

Since you graduated, what kind of jobs did you have?

Two months after my graduation I have started to work as a Project Manager for CIS market in a Dutch industrial company IMC, located in Ede . My initial task was to expand company’s sales to a completely new market, taking into account specific consumer behavior, cultural background, language barriers and economic trends of that particular territory.

What is your current job? And how relates that to your study at Wageningen?

After setting up multiple distribution partnerships in Russia and Kazakhstan, I have been entitled to manage global sales and became a Sales Manager at IMC. I am convinced that deep knowledge of Supply Chain management, Financial risks and Inventory Management is a key aspect in being confident and acting professionally at severe economic markets. I find Operations Research and Logistics Study exceptionally knowledgeable since I am aware what is supply chain in general, what are the goals of every supply chain actor, which obstacles to expect and how to solve the upcoming challenges mathematically and cooperatively. While studying in Wageningen University you learn how to become a young professional by not just attending the scientific courses but also while participating in cross-cultural projects: learning how to interact with people all over the world, reaching the goals together and maximizing mutually beneficial outcomes.

What experiences did you really like during your study?

First of all, coming to study abroad is a completely new experience for any student. Wageningen University makes this journey colourful from A to Z. Introduction week (organised by university) helped me to integrate so quickly that I haven’t noticed that I am new in The Netherlands. My study coordinator Sietse Sterrenburg was very supportive and optimistic, so I could even add more courses to my study programme than what was actually necessary to fulfil credits requirements. In general, I loved the content of my Master programme: learning economic science but also learning how to reflect on your own study, how to communicate, how to develop your writing skills, etc. This is something people usually learn through many years. However, MME has managed to combine it all in one study programme and prepare a real professional after 2 year of being a student.
