Hi!
My name is Deng Ying, a master student of Biotechnology in WUR, specialised in food biotechnology. I come from China and it is my second year already. Luckily, I got the chance to go abroad and start my internship in Switzerland.
Den Haag
A week before my departure, finally got my visa for entering Switzerland. As I need to visit the Embassy in Den Haag, I could finally get the chance to meet one of the most beautiful cities in the Netherlands.
Exploring Lausanne
Since the weather is back to summer finally, I got a day to discover Lausanne, the place where I would spend 6 months during the internship. It has several titles, like the Olympic Captial, city of study, commercial centre, convention venue and …leisure destination. And the most amazing part is that you could discover the city and visit every spot using public transport within walking distance.
Enjoying Geneva
Geneva Lake, also known as Le Léman in French, is the one of the largest lakes in Western Europe .The place I live, Launanne is situated on the shores of it thus I have the chance to enjoy the lake from different aspects very often.
Trip to Lucerne
This weekend, I went to Lucerne with two new friends: Julie and Florion. Lucerne is a city in north-central Switzerland in the German-speaking area, and the most popular destination for tourists. Wandering in the streets of the city center, I think I know why.
Warsaw
Last week, I got the chance to visit Warsaw in Poland on behalf of WUR to join the EuroLeague of Life Science Student Conference. It is my first time to travel to East Europe and I am so excited to meet people from “half hometown”- Wageningen.
The Matterhorn
The only thing you couldn’t miss in Switzerland, besides cheese fondue of course, are the snowy mountains. Matterhorn is one of the most famous mountains in Switzerland and it is famous for its beautiful but steep summit (4478m). As the border between Switzerland and Italy, Matterhorn attracted countless explorers and climbers every year.
Going skiing
One of the tasks you must finish in Switzerland must be… skiing! Villars-sur-Ollon, commonly referred to as Villars, is the destination today. Although only a village in Switzerland in the canton of Vaud, it is known for its boarding schools, aka, the most expensive schools in the world. The view of chalets and mountains is so breath-taking with the sun shining in the deep blue sky.
Barcelona and Biology
One of my best friends regards Barcelona as the most worthy visiting city in the world. Well, no offense, but I partly agree with her. Such a pleasant week I spent there. There are always endless attractive things you could do here.
All good things come to an end
Finally comes to the end of my excursion. One year away from Wageningen and now it is time to go back. Yes, I am happy to announce here that I will continue with a PhD study in Wageningen later this year.
