Hola a Todas!
Which means as much as Hello everybody! My name is Joke and I’m one of the new #WURldexplorers. Last week I received a new backpack which you can see on the picture. This was one of the last items I collected before I leave this weekend. At the moment I’m still at home with a cup of coffee, struggling with my last deadlines before I can take off. So it appears that my planning skills are not really evolved yet, it’s not the best idea to leave during the re-exams week, but well, for now it doesn’t really matter anymore.
Birthday!
Hola a Todas! I’m here in Peru for only one week, but I have the feeling that I’ve been here for a very long time. At this moment I realized that all possible celebrations that exist, I’ll be celebrating on very exotic places this year. I set myself the goal to experience these celebrations, as much as possible, in the traditional way the country is celebrating it. As well my own birthday party.
Buenas tardes!
During an internship we learn a lot about the professional surroundings in a different country. The reason that I’m in Peru right now is of course to gain some more knowledge about water management, but next to this I probably learn even more about living and being abroad in a different culture. While I am abroad, I try to learn as much as possible about the culture and I try to adjust where possible, without losing my own identity.
La Champaria
The last weeks I couldn’t write a lot of stories because I was very busy with my internship activities and research. But I finally found time to tell about one of the most bizarre experiences I’ve had in San Pedro de Casta.
A lot of sunsets!
Right now I’m living in what feels like the most remote place on earth. My Dutch telephone doesn’t work over here and now even my Peruvian phone cannot find a connection. I’m living in a so called ‘hospedaje’ and I can say that the price and quality ratio does make sense. It is almost free, but only at 6.00AM I have running water that is ice and ice cold.
Riego Technificado
As a part of my internship I have to visit different kinds of projects in the context of water management in Peru. Together with the organisation I’m doing my research for, AQUAFONDO, I have been on a field trip in the watershed of the river Lurín. For 2 days we went on a so called road trip through the mountains and visited projects such as reservoirs and irrigation systems which have been subject of change. Together with a co-worker and another student, we went on our road trip in a minivan, which was way too small for tall Dutch people. In the van full with food and Peruvian music, we had some awesome days.
Feliz año nuevo!
In the first story that I wrote for the wurldexplorers I already mentioned that I would be celebrating all the big annual celebrations in exotic places. Therefore I was not that surprised to find myself in Colombia during new years eve.
