Introduction
My name is Twan van der Slikke and I am a third year Management and Consumer studies student. When I got the possibility to study a semester abroad I was very curious and immediately decided to take this opportunity. From February till June you I will study at the Izmir University of Economics. If you are also curious about how it is to study a semester abroad, please, feel free to follow my journey.
Exploring the city
This is the first time I started writing since I arrived in Turkey. I am only here for 6 days but it was already quite an experience. From the stories of other Erasmus students I heard that everyone will experience a bump in his adventure sooner or later. I can say to you, me and Tom (the other Dutch student from Wageningen who I am studying with in Izmir) are experiencing a mountain, which I hope will lay behind us very soon.
Getting settled
A week has passed since my last report. And to answer the cliffhanger of the last time right away... no, we didn’t found the passport of Tom. But after five or six visits to the Dutch consulate we found a solution. There was the option to choose between a visit to Ankara, to get a new passport over there, or to get a laissez-passer. A laissez-passer is a one way ticket which you can use to fly back to your home country. Since Tom already planned to visit the Netherlands sometimes during our stay in Izmir to see his girlfriend, friends and family the laissez-passer was the best option. With the laissez-passer he can fly back in March, see the people home, and get a new passport in the Netherlands to fly back to Turkey. I hope most of the problems regarding the lost passport will lay behind us then.
Coming together
Selam everyone! It’s been a while since I wrote you guys. The workload of school is getting bigger and I had many other things planned. I was also editing a video I wanted to ad in this blog. Since I’ve never edited before it took me some time, but it’s finished now and I’m happy with the result. This weekend I have time to write about my experiences last weeks and I promise I will try to write more often in the future :).
