Join the MOOC Challenge!

Do you want to learn how to develop a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC)? Follow hands-on workshops? Win a chance to create your own MOOC? Take up the challenge and join the MOOC Challenge!

For the third time the Education Support Centre (ESC) of Wageningen University & Research, in collaboration with the Education and Learning Sciences Group (ELS) and support of WUR Student Challenges, organises the MOOC Challenge. Now open not only for WUR students, but also for students from the Alliance partners: Utrecht University, Utrecht Medical Centre Utrecht and Technical University Eindhoven.

We invite students to come up with ideas for a new MOOC. You will form teams and work in an interdisciplinary (and cross
institutional) group of students on a storyboard design (a MOOC blueprint)
including a variety of teaching activities. The winning team can put their
ideas into practice and develop a completely new MOOC in the following academic
year, supported by the WUR Open & Online team of ESC. It is also great for
your resume! Bonus: you will get 6 ECTS upon successful completion of the
Challenge, the course is included in the study handbook: MOOC Development ELS59306 (for WUR students) and on EduXchange for other Alliance students.

There is a lot of freedom in deciding on the MOOC topic and target group. All we require is that the topic is interesting to a truly global and potentially massive audience, that it fits/adds to the WUR MOOC portfolio , and that the topic aligns with at least one of the themes of WUR. The challenge will run from January till the beginning of May and include a lot of (online) group work, and peer/teacher feedback and opportunities for (group) coaching.

Three days will be offered face to face at Wageningen Campus:

  • Wednesday January 11th 2023: 10.00-16.00
  • Tuesday February 7th, 13.00-17.00 (first storyboard)
  • Wednesday March 15th, 10.00 – 16.00 (second storyboard and video workshop)

In the week of May 8, the Jury Meeting will be held, in which the winning MOOC idea will be selected. (online or offline. Still to be decided)
