Storytelling is the art of telling stories. It's not just about sharing facts: it's about creating an emotional connection with your audience. Stories can clarify complex topics and improve engagement. Facts and research findings support your story so that it really reaches your target audience.

This course provides academics with the skills to present their research and ideas more effectively through storytelling, with a focus on clear communication, engagement and inspiring audiences.

Possible content of the course

We will discuss your needs during the intake. Depending on the learning goals set, the following topics are covered in the course:

  • The definition of storytelling and its importance within science
  • Examples of effective storytelling when presenting research
  • How stories can evoke emotions and inspire
  • Explanation of the core components of a story: characters, conflict, climax
  • How to integrate facts and research findings into a story
  • Which images and infographics can support stories
  • Techniques for building an emotional connection with your audience
  • Using personal anecdotes and experiences to increase authenticity
  • Mixing results and emotions without losing factuality
