Academic Writing part 2: Thesis (online)
Are you in the process of writing your thesis? You may have questions about how to formulate complex sentences, how to use the correct style and words to make a professional impression, or how to best edit the text. This online course will help you to answer these questions and optimise your writing skills.
Target group
Academic Writing part 2 is aimed at bachelor’s and master’s students that are currently writing their thesis and who want to improve their academic writing skills.

Course content
Your thesis is the starting point for this course. To get the most out of this course, it is important that the date for handing in your thesis is after the end of the course. If you have not yet started your thesis, then we suggest that you take Academic Writing part 1.
During the course you will:
- read different academic texts and analyse their language use;
- write different texts related to parts of your thesis;
- how to structure text well and organise information.
Our lecturer will help you to:
- write complex sentences;
- use the correct words, academic phrases, and grammar for your thesis;
- develop your skills such as planning, reviewing, and editing your text.
Admission requirements
Before you can enrol in Academic Writing courses you will have to take a Placement Test (OOPT).
OOPT
You need a minimum score of 70 to enrol in Academic Writing part 2. You can request the OOPT by emailing us at into@wur.nl.
What is an Oxford Online Placement Test?
Dates and times
This course is offered annually in February, April/May and September.

Location
You follow the course entirely online using the Virtual Classroom in Brightspace.
Number of meetings
8 online classes of 1 hour each and 2 individual sessions of 30 minutes each.
Self-study
2 to 3 hours per week.
Course materials
Participants will get access to Brightspace. All relevant information will be made available on a course page.
Certification
To receive a Wageningen in'to Languages certificate, a minimum attendance of 80% is required.
