John Bergmans (1892-1980), garden architect and plantsman

A new book has been published about John Bergmans, one of the many garden and landscape architects from the TUiN collection of the Special Collections. Bergmans' entire oeuvre with 1,000 drawings of more than 600 gardens, parks and other green areas is described in the TUiN database. The collection can be consulted at the Forum Library.

The book by Marianne van Lidt de Jeude and Johanna Karssen-Schüürmann, is an extensive description of the work of John Bergmans (1892-1980). Bergmans worked mainly in Limburg and North Brabant, from the mid-1920s to the mid-1960s. He designed both elite villa gardens and public green for the working-class housing of the State Mines and the Philips company, recreational parks and botanical gardens. Bergmans was a thorough plant connoisseur and also a prolific writer on perennials and rock gardens.

John Bergmans' work with approximately 1,000 designs for 608 private or public gardens, parks and other green areas is described in the TUiN database. The drawings and their related documents can be consulted in the Special Collections reading room in the Forum Library.
