Join the new series of Library essentials webinars

This spring, you can join a new series of Library Essentials webinars. Each session focuses on a topic that directly benefits your research or teaching, such as systematic literature searching, research data management, and open-access publishing. New to the series is a webinar on recognising predatory journals.

Discovering key library services and collections | 11 March

In this webinar, you'll explore the comprehensive and diverse services the Library offers to support your research. Our tools and resources are designed to enhance your effectiveness and help you achieve greater quality and impact. Additionally, we will provide a brief overview of our collections, focusing on the most efficient ways to find relevant content.

Auhor profiles and impact analysis | 18 March

Are you looking to enhance your research visibility and impact? Join us for an insightful webinar where we’ll dive into the essentials of managing your author profiles and analysing your research impact.

Systematic searching for literature | 25 March

WUR Library provides access to more than 16,000 scientific journals, more than 35,000 eBooks, and over 120 literature databases. How do you find the content you’re looking for most efficiently? In this webinar, you’ll learn how to identify the most relevant resources and how to set up your search strategy. In addition, you’ll receive useful tips on how to set up a systematic search in Scopus and Web of Science. After this webinar, you’ll have a good overview of where and how to find scientific information and how to get support from the Library.

Open Access publishing | 8 April

This webinar provides a comprehensive overview of Open Access (OA) publishing at WUR. What does the OA policy of WUR and some major funders entail? Which OA options exist? How can you publish OA for free or at a discount? What are Creative Commons licenses? We'll address these and other questions and also introduce practical tools to publish OA.

Resources and services for teachers | 10 April

WUR recommends sharing and using open educational resources. In this webinar, we'll discuss the basic rules for using copyrighted materials in Brightspace and how to make and share open educational resources. This webinar partly overlaps with the Start to Teach training. 

Research data management | 15 April

During this webinar, you’ll be introduced to Research Data Management (RDM) concepts, good practices, and tools. What is the difference between RDM, FAIR, and Open data? What is a data management plan, and how can you benefit from good RDM practices? These and other questions will be addressed. After this webinar, you’ll have a good idea about RDM, and you’ll know where to find information, support, and tools.

Recognising questionable and predatory journals | 13 May

In this webinar we will explore the rising concerns about questionable publishing practices, the grey area between responsible publishing and fraudulent behaviour. Why can publishing in these “grey area” journals be attractive at first glance? What are the eventual consequences for you as a researcher and for science in general? We will discuss common characteristics of questionable – and also predatory - journals, and focus on tools and checklists that you can use to check the trustworthiness of a journal. After this webinar you will know what you can do yourself to recognise and avoid questionable and predatory journals.
