Yoda is an application for FAIR research data management during all phases of your research project. It enables you to store your data, share it with colleagues both inside and outside your organisation, and archive your data for long-term preservation. Now, you can also publish your data package with Yoda.

How does it work?

Yoda supports the FAIR data principles. It provides a clear and intuitive metadata form you fill-in during data collection. After active data gathering has been completed, the data package is archived in the Yoda Vault. Once a data package is safely in the vault, you can choose to publish it and make it visible in the public domain.

When publishing through Yoda, your data package will obtain a permanent Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and the metadata will get registered in DataCite, meaning your work will be easily findable on the internet. With the DOI you can also register your data package in Pure. You can choose the level of access to the data package. In case you are dealing with sensitive data, you can choose to publish only the metadata or your data package and make the content of the data package available upon request or not at all.

When publishing your data package, you can also select if it is a new publication or a new version of an already published data package. In the latter case, Yoda will link the two publications and assign the same base DOI to the data package and mark the publication as a newer version of the earlier data package.

For more information about how to publish in Yoda, please, see this webpage of Utrecht University.

Currently two other institutes are using Yoda for publishing their data, Utrecht University (UU ) and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). Yoda is developed at Utrecht University and hosted by SURF. The WUR repository finder can help you decide whether the Yoda@WUR repository is the right choice for you.

All published datasets through Yoda@WUR can be accessed via DataCiteCommons.

Why publish your research data?

Publishing is key to good research practice and part of making your data FAIR. It enables other researchers to reproduce and verify the results and conclusions or do new research based on your data. Besides helping other researchers, sharing data may also benefit you. Articles usually get cited more often when they link to the underlying dataset. More information on why to publish research data.
