We're excited to announce that we've successfully restored a painting from the Agrotechnology and Food Sciences Group in Axis. A perfect example of our mission to preserve WUR's cultural & academic heritage for future generations.

Jerry Keizer

The painting by Dutch painter Jerry Keizer is entitled XXVIII and was bought in 2003 by the Science Group Agrotechnology and Food Sciences. It is a monumental, black-and-white, abstract painting. Keizer (1938-2016) was a Dutch Postwar & Contemporary painter. He often worked with black and white paint. Most of his works are heavily textural because they are composed of multiple layers. The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam owns a number of Keizer's works.

Restorer Han Boersma in action

The Library's Special Collections commissioned painting restorer Han Boersma, to bring the impressive painting back to its former glory. Because of its size (1.80 m x 1.80 m) and fragility, the restoration took place in the quiet stacks of the Forum Library.

The painting was in bad shape. It had 13 seriously damaged spots, all of which have now been consolidated and stabilized. Small tears were stitched and gaps were filled. When the restoration is finished, the painting will be moved back to the Axis building on Wageningen Campus.
