What is it about?

In recent years, reputable publishers of various journals have started to use questionable publishing practices more frequently. Rather than being malicious or "predatory," these journals or publishers fall into the grey area of questionable publishing practices. Characteristics include a poor or mediocre quality peer-review process and frequent invitations for editorships or guest editorships on topics that are only marginally your expertise. The grey area also includes journals whose growth is based on a huge increase in special issues and low rejection rates.

How do we deal with this within WUR? WUR Library, in collaboration with Wageningen Young Academy, is organising a round table discussion in which all facets will be addressed. The publisher MDPI will be used as a case study. How does this publisher's publishing process work? What considerations play a role in publishing in such journals? What are the possible consequences? Does WUR need clearer guidelines?

For whom?

The meeting is intended for WUR researchers in all career stages. So, if you are an early career researcher about to publish or an experienced researcher, then this is an interesting meeting for you!

We would like to invite you to share your experiences with publishers and the publishing choices you have made. We aim for an open discussion with space and respect for everyone's opinions. It will be a WUR-internal meeting without external participants so that we can exchange ideas freely.
