The COP 26 UN Climate Change Conference, hosted by the UK in partnership with Italy, will take place from 31 October to 12 November 2021 in Glasgow, UK. The UK declared that the conference aims to “secure global net zero by mid-century and keep 1.5 degrees within reach”, as well as to protect communities and natural habitats. COP26 will be under the spotlight of the global public opinion, as participating governments are expected to demonstrate their political willingness to tackle “the urgent and linked challenges of public health, climate change, and biodiversity loss”.
With the help of three prominent experts: Elisa Morgera (University of Strathclyde), Josephine van Zeben ( chair LAW Group at WUR) and Niki de Sy (Assistant Professor at the Laboratory of Geo-information Science and Remote at WUR), this Rapid Reaction Seminar, taking place a few days after COP26, will critically reflect on its significance, contents and outcomes, touching upon themes that range from nature conservation, to human rights, to the European Green Deal.
