The 3DDD project is a WRM project that combines insights from socio-hydrology and water management to produce an entirely new approach to diagnosing and dealing with drought, incorporating the study of water-related human dimensions (D1), socio-hydrological dynamics (D2), and the structuring of dialogues (D3) among actors. At the end of last year, the 3DDD team visited the study site in Brazil for the first time since the kick-off meeting and the full research team finally met face-to-face.

David, Louise, Sarra and Esmee recently shared a blogpost on 3DDD’s website to share their experiences, research and excitement.

The team spent almost five intensive and exciting weeks working, planning and integrating the project. Among the many highlights of this field visit, the team trialled participatory 3D modelling (P3DM), a participatory mapping method and tool for the capturing and sharing of knowledge and experiences by a wide range of stakeholders. P3DM will be used in the context of the 3DDD project to facilitate social learning and establish relationships with stakeholders that go beyond the superficial interviewer-interviewee, as can often be the result with researchers who are external to the geographic location of a study. The research team visited existing water resources infrastructure and met with farmers and municipality administration. The visit ended with preparation and participation of the Water Solutions for Semi-Arid Regions conference in Fortaleza.
