During the Geospatial World Forum, Harm Bartholomeus of the Unmanned Aerial Remote Sensing Facility (UARSF) received the best paper award for his presentation 'Design of an UAV-based Hyperspectral Scanning System and Application in Agricultural and Environmental Research'. The yearly Geospatial World Forum was this year organized in Lisabon, Portugal, from 25-29 May, 2015.

The objectives of the Geospatial World Forum is to promote the optimal use and implementation of spatial data and resources for growth and features success stories of private industry and users of spatial data boosting the business of spatial information.  During the conference several examples were presented which shows the opportunities of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) or drones as flexible platform for data collection either in situations where data are scarcely available or in the case fast update of existing spatial datasets is required (e.g., topography, land-use or 3D models). This shows that UAVs are becoming an addition to existing data collection systems. The presentation of Harm showed that research cooperation between universities, research organizations, companies and end-users is required to develop operational models for Drones as a Service. Next year the Geospatial World Forum will be held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from May 23-26, 2016
