Best book in the field of Agricultural History of The Netherlands
The jubilee Association of Agricultural History (VLG) has chosen the best book in the field of Dutch agricultural history: 'Boeren in Nederland. Geschiedenis van de landbouw, 1500-2000' (Five centuries of farming : a short history of Dutch agriculture 1500-2000), written by Dr. Jan Bieleman.
On April 4th, during the spring meeting of the Association of Agricultural History (Vereniging voor Landbouw Geschiedenis, VLG), which celebrates it's 75th anniversary this year, it was announced that the book 'Boeren in Nederland. Geschiedenis van de Landbouw, 1500-2000' was chosen by the VLG members to be the best book in the field of Dutch agricultural history.
The book was written by dr. Jan Bieleman, former employee of the chairgroup Rural and Environmental History of Wageningen University, and published in 2008 by Boom publishers. The English edition, 'Five centuries of farming : a short history of Dutch agriculture 1500-2000' was published two years later, by Wageningen Academic Publishers in 2010.
Because of his merit for the agricultural history, Jan Bieleman was appointed honorary member of the Association of Agricultural History.
