On 16 and 17 June, the city of Wageningen and WUR will be celebrating a century of ‘Wageningen in Wageningen’ with 100 years WUR in the city, a scintillating festival for both young and old.

For the last century, students and staff have left their mark on campus and in the city. They live, shop, eat, drink, party, work and study there. One hundred years of neighbourliness is bound to create a bond, which is why residents, entrepreneurs, student associations, municipality and university will join hands for a weekend filled with music, art, shared food and activities.

Facade concert and Mamma Mia sing-along

Swinging facade concerts and a performance by the student orchestra De Ontzetting will fill the city with music. The outdoor movie 'Mama Mia! The movie’turns the market into a stage for a polyphonic city choir. (The organisation recommends bringing a chair!)

On Saturday at noon, Mayor Geert van Rumund and WUR chairperson Louise Fresco will open the festival with coffee and cake. XL games will be played by young and old, while student associations hold an open house. Those who want to follow their inner child, can help decorate the city by creating a colorful garland with 100 flags.

Potluck and Poetry

Sunday on the Global Village Market in Torck Park allows international student visitors the chance to savour flavours, music and fashion from their own culture. Then the Potluck BBQ starts. All Wageningen residents are welcome to prepare and share their favourite dishes on giant BBQs. This event, along with music from DJ Baobab, is sure to lead to inspiring encounters.

With a poetic tribute to 100 years of WUR in Wageningen, City poet Ivanka de Ruijter will close the official programme. However, this of course doesn’t mean you have to go home.

Everyone is welcome! Join us and discover the best of both worlds. For more information and the programme, please visit the special 100 years WUR in the city page.

The event 100 years of WUR in the city is a co-production of 100 Years WUR, Municipality of Wageningen, agenings Ondernemers Contact (WOC), Heerenstraat Theater, Café Loburg, THUIS, Speelgoedbank Wageningen, Student societies KSV Franciscus, SSR-W, D.L.V. Nji-Sri, ISOW and IxESN.
