The Board of the alliance between Eindhoven University of Technology, Wageningen University & Research, Utrecht University, and University Medical Center Utrecht has decided to appoint Esther Stiekema to the position of Alliance Coordinator as of 1 May 2020. The appointment will be for a term of four years.

The Alliance Coordinator will support the Boards of the four institutions in designing the strategic collaboration and carrying out the common agenda. The motto of the strategic collaboration is "Challenging future generations". The four institutions primarily do this by putting young researchers and students in charge and by collaborating across disciplines. The central focus in the collaboration consists of the challenges in research and education for the next ten to fifteen years, and the question of how the alliance can contribute to societal transitions by means of our education, research and knowledge transfer. The coordinator inspires, connects and takes good ideas further, and collaborates with a team consisting of members from all four of the institutions for this purpose.

Esther Stiekema (1968) studied Cognitive Artificial Intelligence in Utrecht. After research at the University of Indiana, USA, she obtained her PhD at the University of Groningen. Her previous positions include the Association of Universities in the Netherlands and VU Amsterdam as a Senior Policy Advisor. Starting in 2008 and 2016, respectively, she was the Director of Research Policy and the Director of the Academic Affairs Office at Utrecht University.
