Research Methodology in Plant Sciences (NEM-20306), coordinated by Aska Goverse, has been awarded one of the top 30 courses of Wageningen University. Rector Magnificus Wageningen University Arthur Mol has awarded Aska and her team an Excellent Education prize 2018 for this course.

Based on the results of the course evaluations in 2016/2017 the 31 most appreciated courses have been identified, Research Methodology in Plant Sciences being one of them.

Based on experiences in the past and suggestions from chair holders, the IPOP working group “Quality of Education” designed a method for rewarding excellent courses. In 2018, the Excellent Education Prize is awarded according to this procedure. A quality indicator is calculated, based on the results of questions in the course evaluations.

The executive board holds in great esteem the opinions of students on their education. This is an important indicator whether Wageningen University provides education that inspires and meets students’ expectations. Student satisfaction is an important indicator for quality of education, but should not be the sole source of information. This is the reason why peer review of courses will be taken into account as well. In the near future  a successful peer review will be prerequisite for a course to receive a prize.

This year, 47% of the courses in the list of prize winners has been peer reviewed. The percentage peer reviewed courses for all courses in 2016/2017 is 32%. This year, 16 courses in the list of prize winners have been peer reviewed; 52% of the winning courses. Of all courses presented in 2016/2017, 32% were peer reviewed. Based on the results of the course evaluations in 2016/2017 the 31 most appreciated courses have been identified, since two courses had similar scores, resulting in the following list. It contains 3 courses from AFSG, 1 course from the department ASG, 17 from ESG, 6 from PSG and 4 from SSG.
