Recently the first tomatoes haven been harvested from the new greenhouse research facility at Western Sydney University.

This greenhouse facility has been designed by Wageningen University & Research, business unit Greenhouse Horticulture. The facility was realized by an Australian greenhouse builder. Staff from Western Sydney University has been trained at WUR Bleiswijk at the beginning of this year on the field of modern crop and climate management, water saving technologies and research facility management.

We are currently working together with Western Sydney University and other Australian partners on education and training of Australian students and greenhouse industry. The new facility aims at fundamental and practical research serving Australian greenhouse industry, which is developing fast and is looking for knowledge of high-tech growing under local climate conditions. The facility is located in the peri-urban area of Sydney, in which more than 5 billion people live and need to be served with fresh vegetables.
