The European conference “Implementing Health Promotion in the Life Course - User Involvement in Practice and Research”, takes place from 24-26 September 2018 in Trondheim, Norway. This conference aims to strengthen the role of health promotion in Europe as a source of innovative practices that are based on solid evidence by gathering health promotion practitioners, researchers and policy makers. Several HSO colleagues are going to this conference – all with a different planning. Some are presenting themselves, some are just visiting and others host a symposium. Curious to know more about everyone's plans? Read further!

Lenneke Vaandrager will begin her time at the IUHPE Conference with a workshop with Georg Bauer on "Act positive across the life course: Salutogenesis helps to prioritize and promote the sustainable development goals (SDG's)". On the second day, Lenneke has organized the Symposium on Salutogenesis together with Georg Bauer. Also on the second day, Lenneke organized together with Anna Bonmatí Tomàs the workshop‘European Training Consortium Public Health and Health Promotion: 27th years achieving The IUHPE competencies’. on the this day, Lenneke wil chair a meeting on Promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, and host the Eurocafé on Evidence to Practice together with Paolo Contu. The Euro Café will serve as a forum on the final day (September 26, 2018) where all conference participants will be able to reflect on the key issues raised in this Conference in a guided "world café" - small group format, the end product serves as a platform for future health promotion action in Europe.

During the IUPHE conference, Kristel Polhuis will present an overview of her PhD -specifically on the methodology of the everyday life interviews- during the poster session “Salutogenesis – state of the art”.

Even though Yvette Beulen will not be presenting, the conference focuses on the life course perspective and user involvement, which are two key elements in Yvette’s PhD research. She hopes to be inspired and is especially looking forward to meeting people involved in similar research, to exchange knowledge and experiences.

Lisanne will present her research on the second day of the conference. The PhD of Lisanne Mulderij is about care-physical activity initiatives in the neighbourhood. Examples of care-PA initiatives are combined lifestyle interventions. Lisanne: “In the Netherlands, an example of a combined lifestyle intervention is X-Fittt 2.0, a 2-year programme for people with a low SES, funded by a health insurer and the municipality. The first results are promising, and therefore, in the research I am going to present at the IUHPE Conference, I looked at the ‘effective elements’ of X-Fittt 2.0. With effective elements, I mean the components of the intervention that the respondents indicated to have contributed to the impact of the intervention and that should definitely be present when implementing the intervention in another municipality. To identify the effective elements, I used Concept Mapping, in which 9 professionals involved in X-Fittt 2.0 and 1 participant of X-Fittt 2.0 participated. Besides my own contribution, I am also looking forward to all other sessions and presentations on the conference, the concert that will be held in the Cathedral of Trondheim, and the city itself.”

Last but not least, Lette Hogeling will also go to the conference and present her research: "The conference’s theme this year is ‘Implementing Health Promotion in the Life Course - User Involvement in Practice and Research’. The evaluation of the Healthy Futures Nearby programme offers a broad range of information on user involvement in health promotion initiatives, research and practice. In an oral presentation, I will discuss the first results of a study exploring practice based theories for health promotion among families with low socio-economic status. The perspective of the families and of professionals working directly with the families is very valuable for theory-based evaluation. This study maps and unravels the practical, everyday life’s strategies that underlie 46 health promotion projects in the Netherlands. Also, these strategies are translated into higher-level theories for health promotion".
