Harry Barnes-Dabban represents ENP as Ambassador in the Sustainable Ocean Summit (SOS) 2016
We are proud that Harry Barnes-Dabban, PhD candidate at ENP, is one of the 16 Ambassadors selected for the Sustainable Ocean Summit (SOS) 2016 to be held in Rotterdam, November 30 - December 2, 2016. The Summit, with the theme “ Ocean 2030: Sustainable Development Goals and the Ocean Business Community” will provide a global platform for leadership companies and organizations to advance the development and implementation of industry-driven solutions to ocean sustainability challenges.
As Ambassador, Harry will have the role of representing the World Ocean Council at the Summit in facilitating an understanding of the Council’s objectives and focus by attendees, rapporteur for several sessions, interview attendees, and assist the Event Co-ordinator. He was selected based on his familiarity with ocean topics, primarily his research on environmental policy and governance in African ports, and co-organising similar international events with his NGO, Ports Environmental Network-Africa (PENAf) in partnership with UNEP’s Abidjan Convention Secretariat in Africa. He expresses the unique exposure that the unprecedented international collaboration among diverse ocean business leaders on pressing environmental concerns of the world’s oceans will offer him as his motivation. He is also excited about the opportunity to contribute to an important ocean sustainability event.
SOS 2016 is uniquely designed to bring together leadership companies from the diverse Ocean Business Community: shipping, oil and gas, fisheries, aquaculture, seabed mining, tourism, renewable energy, ports, dredging, mining, submarine cables, marine science, engineering and technology, the maritime legal, financial and insurance communities, and others – as well as ocean stakeholders from the government, inter-governmental, academic and environment communities.
