Jack Ma visits WUR to learn more about sustainable food production

Jack Ma, founder of Jack Ma Foundation and co-founder and former executive chairman of Alibaba Group, visited WUR on July 2nd 2022. He was interested in how to increase food production in a sustainable way. Ma mentioned he would like to come again in order to gain even more insights.

The aim of Ma’s visit to Wageningen was to gain insight into the possibilities of sustainable livestock farming and fisheries, since Mr. Ma ‘would like to fully devote his time and efforts to agriculture and food sustainability, including in the Gobi desert’.

After a general introduction of WUR, scientists shared their knowledge on the future of sustainable livestock farming, aquaculture and fisheries.

The delegation also visited the brand new high-tech greenhouse and the Netherlands Plant Eco-phenotyping Centre (NPEC) on Wageningen Campus.

During the tour, Ma was impressed by WUR’s wide range of research topics and state-of-the-art research facilities. In talks with WUR scientists Ma also showed interest in ways of making agriculture attractive for younger talents, and how to produce food sustainably. He noted his desire to re-visit WUR to explore collaboration opportunities.
