Congratulations to ENP early career scholar Ina Möller! Together with her colleague Julia Schubert from the University of Bonn, Ina has received a 10,000 Euro grant from the Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen (KNAW) to organize a scientific workshop on the Politics of Climate Engineering.

This grant comes in tandem with additional funding from the Lorentz Center of Leiden University, funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO), which has agreed to host the workshop.

The workshop will address the politics involved in generating scientific expertise and policies around a group of technologies often summarized as ‘climate engineering’ - large scale, intentional interventions into the climate system envisioned to stabilize global temperatures. It addresses an apparent contradiction between the still largely speculative and imaginary nature of climate engineering technologies, and their increasing normalization and integration into climate science and policy making.

In an interdisciplinary setting and in collaboration with policy experts who have addressed climate engineering in government contexts, the workshop participants will explore and analyze experiences from their different fields to generate an updated research agenda which will address contemporary challenges and opportunities.

Due to Covid19 and international travel restrictions, the date for the physical workshop remains to be set. The KNAW early career partnership is valid for two years.
