Early next year a congress will be held to mark the opening of the new Forum Library. The 'Opening Congress: Rethinking the Library' will take place on Thursday, 21 February 2008, in the Forum Building's large lecture hall. The congress is intended to inform colleagues and library users of Wageningen UR about the library's latest developments, including innovations in the field of Web 2.0, and to allow attendees to view the new library.

The organisation has put together a varied programme with room for lectures and tours as well as an opportunity to network. Peter R. Young, Director of the USDA's National Agricultural Library (NAL), will sketch the changing role of the NAL with regard to the developments in the area of Web 2.0. Leo Waaijers, project manager at SURF and former librarian at Wageningen UR, will examine the role of the library as publisher. Wageningen UR library employees will then shed some light on the latest developments in the digital library and Forum architect Paul Wintermans will lead us virtually through 'his' building.

Ad Bastiaanse, who has led many congresses, seminars and business events both nationally and internationally, will chair the day. The congress's official language is Dutch with the exception of Mr. Young's presentation, which will be in English.

The lectures will be followed by tours in the new library. Attendees may also visit the exhibition "Top Pieces from Our Collection" in the Special Collections Department.
