Michael Marchman, lecturer with the Cultural Geography, received recognition for his course 'Introduction to Leisure, Tourism and Environment (GEO-10806)' during the Excellent Education prizes 2014 on the 10th of September. In total 30 courses received an award for their teaching practices at Wageningen University, including 10 courses with the Environmental Sciences Group.

In 2014, the awarding of the excellent education prize is done according to this new system for the first time. A quality indicator is calculated on the results of questions on course set up, learning outcomes, teaching methods, previously acquired knowledge, overlap, the contribution of the lecturers to the learning process, examination and on the general rating of the course.
Student satisfaction is an important indicator for quality of education, but should not be the sole source of information. This is the reason the peer review of courses will be taken into account as well. From 2015 a successful peer review will be prerequisite for a course to receive the Excellent Education Prize.
