Kristel: "I am a PhD candidate at HSO. My project aims to develop a learning trajectory on healthy eating for people with type 2 diabetes. I am truly excited about the project and it exactly matches to who I am.

I have always had a passion for health. I wanted to not only cure diseased people, but also to promote health among healthy people. My interests led me to Wageningen to follow the Bachelor “Voeding en Gezondheid”, and later the Master Nutrition and Health.

During my studies, I worked (and still work) at a fitness centre where I teach various lessons including dance, aerobics and strength training, but also yoga and Pilates. At the fitness centre, I see people struggling with their health. Although they know quite well what to eat to eat healthy, it seemed to be that they find it difficult to apply abstract nutritional knowledge into actual diet practices.

Then I saw the vacancy for this PhD project. I was excited right away! Especially because the learning trajectory will not be focussed on increasing nutritional knowledge solely, but mainly on practical tools that teach people how to make healthy choices in the complexity of their everyday lives. With this project I could use science to help the people I see struggling daily! In fact, I was so enthusiastic about this project, that I was willing to quit my previous (exciting) job as research assistant at the Dutch Beer Institute."
