Forest Governance: Hydra or Chloris? Cambridge University Press

What is so special about forest governance that we need a small handbook in addition to those on resource governance, environmental governance and governance in general?

In his new book, Prof. dr. Bas Arts, of the Forest & Nature Conservation Policy group, explains that forests differ from many other natural resources and environmental issues because they belong to national territories of nation states. Although many consider forests and related problems as global issues and concerns, many others oppose any global governance response by the international community.

The subtitle of the book makes reference to figures from Greek mythology, representing two overarching world views on forest governance in the scholarly literature: one is a critical view about governance theory and pessimistic about the potential of governance performance; the other is a supportive and optimistic view.

The book will be launched during a WCSG Seminar, on December 14, 3-5 pm. For the location, see WCSG website.
