As of today, the third educational building under construction on the Wageningen Campus is called Aurora. A competition among students and staff yielded 840 entries with 462 unique names. From this, a jury nominated two names from which the Executive Board chose Aurora.

Aurora is the Roman goddess of the dawn. The prize winner, student Annemiek van Kessel, chose this name because of the building design. “I think this is an appropriate name because the building is characterized by daylight in all areas of use. Aurora ensures that sunlight can reach as many places in the new building as possible” says Annemiek. She will soon receive a certificate and a check for 250 euros for her winning nomination. The name Aurora matches the names of the other buildings on campus. These all have a Latin or Greek background.
