Refrigerated Transport Technology course held for the 1st time

The new, fully booked course Refrigerated Transport Technology was held last week. Thirty-five participants from different backgrounds, such as vegetables and fruits suppliers, consultancy and quality inspection of fresh produce, breeding companies, packaging technology and ornamental producers joined the course, organized and developed by Wageningen Academy and Wageningen Food & Biobased Research.

Monique Tulp, programme manager explains the interest consumers depend on supply chains that can bring perishable goods to retailers’ shelves speedily and in the best possible condition. Consumer’s purchasing decisions depend on products looking appealing. For parties involved in fresh food perishables extended knowledge on  refrigerated transport helps to improve climate control, extend shelf life and minimize food waste’. Course leader Eelke Westra opened the course and set the scene. Experts from Wageningen Food & Biobased Research explained and introduced topics such as; factors affecting temperature deviations, refrigerated trucks and humidity, fresh air exchange and advanced technologies. A visit to a reefer container was included as well.

Course Leader Eelke Westra, Refrigeration Technology expert Edo Wissink and Leo Lukassen, Leader Postharvest Engineering shared their expertise with great enthousiasm. During the programme, there was ample time for the participants to discuss with each other and the experts and feel the education atmosphere at Wageningen University & Research during lunch and drinks at Wageningen Campus.
