On January 9, Simon N. Groot, the winner of the 2019 World Food Prize and founder of East-West Seed, visited the campus of Wageningen University & Research. He was interviewed by the director of Plant Sciences; Ernst van den Ende. Many interested people joined their conversation.

In a very accessible way Groot talked about the history of East-West Seed, how this company empowered millions of smallholder farmers to earn greater incomes and answered various questions from the audience.

East-West Seed sells high quality seeds which enhance vegetable production. In addition, the company shares its knowledge and skills with smallholder farmers to help them move forward. Groot has also created the innovative Knowledge Transfer Program, which trains tens of thousands of farmers each year in the best agricultural practices for vegetable production. East-West Seed is currently expanding its market to Africa.

Groot will also be present during the final of the Wageningen Youth Institute 2020, which will take place on 19 March. Alysha Blömker, winner of the Wageningen Youth Institute 2019, will then talk with him.
