Sjoukje Heimovaara appointed Managing Director AFSG

The executive board has appointed Dr ir Sjoukje Heimovaara (1965) to the position of Managing Director of the Agrotechnology & Food Sciences Group (AFSG) as of 1 March. She succeeds Dr Raoul Bino, who left office on 1 January.

Heimovaara studied plant breeding at Wageningen University and obtained her PhD in cell-biology (1995) at Leiden University. After her PhD, she worked at TNO. From 2003 to 2019 she held the position of R&D Director at Royal Van Zanten, rising to CEO in the last few years.

In addition to several other tasks, she is a member of the Advisory Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (known by its Dutch acronym AWTI), which advises the government on policies concerning science, technology and innovation.

The executive board is very pleased with this new managing director and wishes her the best of luck in further developing activities in this field, which is vital to WUR.
