Spotlight publication: 10 miljard monden (10 Billion Mouths)
In 2050, the Earth will need to feed 10 billion people. But we're already facing huge challenges, such as environmental, climate and health problems. In 10 Billion Mouths, 80 WUR scientists share their ideas on how to sustainably feed the world.
In this book, published in Dutch by Prometheus publishers, eighty scientists from WUR share their ideas on sustainable food issues in 2000 word essays. Published in Dutch, the book is aimed at a general public and covers a broad range of ideas on technological innovation, circular systems, using the potential of nature and stimulating people to change their behaviours and learn from each other globally.
The book was edited by Ingrid de Zwarte and Jeroen Candel. Both work at the Department of Social Sciences. Ingrid de Zwarte is an assistant professor at the Rural and Environmental History Group and Jeroen Candel is an assistant professor at the Public Administration and Policy Group.
The book's preface was written by Louise O. Fresco. Professor Fresco is president of the Executive Board of Wageningen University & Research. The book was presented at World Food Day, 16 October 2020. Professor Fresco tweeted about the book: 'a book of essays on future food, entitled Ten Billion Mouths, reflecting great interdisciplinary work from photosynthesis, virology, ethics to algae & insects'.
