Want to learn more about malnutrition and micronutrients and how they influence human health? Then follow the new MOOC Nutrition and Health Part 2: Micronutrients and Malnutrition (NUTR102x) of Wageningen University. It will start on 9 November and will take seven weeks. This Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on micronutrients and malnutrition is the follow-up to the first and very successful MOOC on Nutrition and Health of Wageningen University.

Food plays a central role in our society but few people actually understand what it does to our bodies. The new and free online course on platform edX.org will therefore focus on undernutrition and micronutrients. First, the team of Professors from Wageningen University will introduce you into the chemistry of vitamins and minerals. Then they will consider the impact of malnutrition on global disease burden, and the nutritional strategies to improve nutritional status and combat malnutrition.

Free MOOC

Micronutrients and Malnutrition (NUTR102x) gets on for seven weeks and is free of charge. Students must factor in six to eight hours per week of study load. Prior knowledge is not necessary, but the course adds to the knowledge of Part 1, NUTR101x. The instructors will be prof. Sander Kersten, dr. Inge Brouwer, dr. Guido Hooiveld and dr. Alida Boonstra, all belonging to the Division of Human Nutrition of Wageningen University.

Nutrition and Health Part 1 still running

Nutrition and Health Part 1 (NUTR101x) has been a great success and has already run twice. The first time, 50.000 students from all over the world signed up. The second time the MOOC was presented, it was self-paced. Then 26.000 students signed up, and that number is growing every week as Nutrition and Health Part 1 is still running. Students can plan their own day and follow the free MOOC as fast or slow as they want.

Series

NUTR101x and NUTR102x are part of the Nutrition-Food for Health xSeries of Wageningen University. A third MOOC on Food Safety (NUTR103x) is planned for June 2016.
