This summer ORL PhD's Jochem Jonkman and Heleen Stellingwerf attended the EURO PhD school organised by the EURO working group of sustainable supply chains, hosted by the University of Aachen.
Along with 30 PhD peers from various countries, they stayed at the historic city of Koblenz to engage in lectures and group work, followed by a stay at the University of Aachen for the first Sustainable Supply Chains conference of the Euro working group. They followed lectures on Biobased supply chains, Closed-loop supply chains and sustainability, thought by professors from different European universities.
The international PhD groups worked together on company cases
provided by Hankel and Ford. The summer school ended with a visit to an OR company and attending the conference, in which the PhD students presented a poster on their research.
Next to these educational activities, there was time to visit the cities of
Koblenz and Aachen and to get to know their PhD colleagues in sustainable supply chains.
The next Summer School on Sustainable Supply Chains will be held in 2018 in The Netherlands.
