From September to 15 October, students, employees and alumni cycle - virtually - around the world with WUR on Wheels. Every kilometre counts, day-to-day transport, commuting to work – spinning at the gym, cycling for fun or for fitness, but there is always a bigger fish.
World cyclist, alumnus and meteorologist Willem van der Pas is currently in China on his monster tour from Utrecht to Thailand. As many as twenty-one countries he already crossed, but, as he writes on his Instagram, "It has something special to say 'I cycled to China'. Only four million meters to the final destination".
"This year I take a sabbatical to undertake a long trip. Since I was 18 years old, I felt ‘hungry for the horizon’. I have always dreamt of cycling to Thailand, where I have family. In February 2018, I started my trip with my Santos Travelmaster 3+ and 20 kg of luggage. On my way to Thailand via the Silk Road. Now (august 23- red) I am in the city of Osh in Kyrgyzstan after a hard trip on the Pamir highway in Tajikistan. No cycling for a few days, enjoying only rest, food and internet."
