Professor of Biochemistry Dolf Weijers of Wageningen University & Research (WUR) has been selected to join KNAW. This was announced by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). Members of the KNAW are leading scientists from all disciplines. They are chosen based on their scientific achievements.

How do cells succeed in forming a well-functioning multi-cellular organism? Dolf Weijers researches these types of fundamental questions by studying plant embryos. By combining biochemistry, genetic cell biology, and evolutionary biology he has shed light on important molecular mechanisms that explain the behaviour of cells.

He is a driven researcher as well as a popular lecturer. He is also committed to improving the quality of the academic landscape. His achievements include setting up the Wageningen Science Cafe and the Wageningen Young Academy, and he is an inspirational member of administrative committees both nationally and internationally.
