The bats in Lelystad will receive their own hotel from Wageningen University & Research. The bat hotel offers bats an alternative place to stay where they can also safely give birth to their young.

Bats enjoy a protected status in the Netherlands. However, their current hangout, the abandoned location of the Animal Sciences Group at Edelhertweg 15 in Lelystad, will be demolished. With the hotel, Wageningen is thus creating a new hangout for the bats.

The new bat hotel is located across the road on top of an old clean water reservoir (out of order). The highest point was reached last week with the installation of the roof. Hopefully they will find it soon.
