And the Network and Communication Award goes to...
Last week one of our PhD students won a price during the Dutch ‘Dike knowledge day’. The network and communication award for the ‘young generation’ was rewarded to Kim van den Hoven. She received this acknowledgement for connecting her academic research with the outside/dike world.
Her research is about connecting dikes with vegetated foreshores, in the perspective of nature-based flood protection. Kim her PhD, supervised by Jantsje van Loon-Steensma and Carolien Kroeze, is part of a NWO Living Labs in the Dutch Delta project. Kim was lucky to perform two experiments within the Living Lab Hedwige Prosperpolder (in collaboration with the INTERREG Polder2C’s project).
It was great to do research on a real dike. Now I am busy finishing my data analysis and writing two papers about the dike experiments. I am looking forward to submit the papers, finalize my PhD thesis, and share the results also outside academia
PhD research insights are being shared with students and for instance during meetings such as the dike knowledge days. The dike knowledge day ‘PIW Kennisdag Instandhouding Waterkeringen’ is yearly organized by STOWA and Rijkswaterstaat, to bring together dike experts such as dike managers, researchers, and water boards staff.
