Are you missing credits in your Tenure Track credit calculation?
The Library often receives questions from researchers about credit calculation for Tenure Track reports. This article briefly explains the publication metrics the credit calculation is based on and why you sometimes may miss credits.
Clarivate’s Journal Citation Reports
The credit calculation for research credit overviews and Tenure Track (TT) reports in MyResearchDashboard is based on the journal impact factor (JIF) in Clarivate’s Journal Citation Reports (JCR). In WUR’s Journal Browser, you can find the most recent impact factors for 12,323 journals.
JIF without quartile rank
For some journals, you may find an impact factor in the JCR, but no quartile rank is given. This concerns journals from the Arts and Humanities Citation Index (AHCI) edition and the multidisciplinary Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) edition. These indices received a JIF for the first time in June 2023, but not yet a quartile score. WUR’s journal browser doesn’t show the JIF for these journals. In the next JCR release in June, these journals will be assigned JIF quartiles.
Journal Impact Factor versus Journal Citation Indicator
When looking for the journal impact factor (JIF) in the JCR, do not confuse it with the Journal Citation Indicator (JCI), another indicator listed for all Web of Science journals. The JCI is not used for credit calculation.
Delayed credit calculation
Please, be aware that the JIF of the year of publication is used for credit calculation. However, the publication of JIFs lags 1.5 years behind. The most recent JIF values in the JCR relate to 2022. In June 2024, the impact factors of 2023 will be published. For publications published in 2023 and 2024, we are temporarily using the 2022 JIF and will update this as soon as the 2023 JIF is available.
Note: WUR Library’s journal browser also presents Scopus journal metrics, but you cannot use these metrics for your Tenure Track credit calculation.
