Wageningen University & Research is organising a Bachelor Open Evening on 5 June. Pupils who are unsure about their study choice are welcome on campus from 16:00 for information about degree programmes, conversations with students and study advisers, and guided tours of the campus and sports centre. In the evening, they can get a taste of student life with a student society fair and a party in the city.

This is the first time that Wageningen University & Research is hosting a Bachelor Open Evening, in addition to the Open Days in March and November, and the virtual open days. The evening aims to offer a helping hand to pupils who are still unsure, explains Corine Wiggelo - van Zandwijk, BSc and MSc marketing officer at WUR. “If you’re still uncertain about what to study, it can cause stress, especially on top of the pressure of final exams for students.”

According to her, there is an overwhelming amount of choice for pupils. “As a result, doubts about the right choice are increasing – no one wants to make the wrong decision, if such a thing exists. Doubts can also partly arise from the extent to which a secondary school does or doesn’t invest in the study choice process. Pupils sometimes say they assume they’ll get that information later, and before they know it, they’re in their last year and haven’t yet tackled their study choice in a concrete way. The advice is to start visiting Open Days at an early stage, so you don’t have to do it all in your final year. Starting later makes the process more difficult.”

Every participant can attend a ‘Choice Plan’ Workshop led by Daniëlle Vogels, an information officer for study choice guidance. But there is plenty more to do during the evening – from an information fair featuring all the degree programmes at Wageningen University & Research, to one-on-one advice sessions with study advisers and campus and sports centre tours. To discover just how vibrant student life in the city of Wageningen is, free shuttle buses will run from campus to the city centre. There, students’ societies will present themselves at a fair, and student society Ceres will host a party for prospective students.

Wiggelo - van Zandwijk: “We hope this event appeals to our target group. Of course, we wish them every success in their final exams and look forward to welcoming them to Wageningen to support them in their study choices. It promises to be an enjoyable evening!”
