“Changing Antarctica and Challenges Ahead": Yousra Makanse
Last month, a part of GEO’s PhD Candidate Yousra Makanse's research was discussed in a policy forum, and she was part of a panel discussion!
As the recipient of the 2024 ANT-ICON | SC-ATS fellowship from the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR), Yousra got the chance to participate in the 46th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM-46) in Kochi and present part of her research on Antarctic tourism diversification in a SCAR Information Paper (IP) to the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM). This information paper (IP172 rev. 1, submitted by SCAR) is already available at the ATCM Meeting Documents Archive, which can be found here: https://www.ats.aq/devAS/Meetings/DocDatabase?lang=e.
Besides this, Yousra also took part in the panel discussion: “Changing Antarctica and Challenges Ahead". In this discussion, she was asked to represent the future generation and speak about the current generation's responsibilities towards the future of Antarctica. The recording of the panel (Yousra starts at 1h41) can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/live/50WoaHZRg-w?t=6063s
We are of course incredibly proud of Yousra’s achievements, and we look forward to continuing to cheer her on during her upcoming PhD endeavours!
