Data Science Research: Digital Twins
Digital Twins are alive and kicking at WUR. After finalising the Investment Theme on Digital Twins in 2022, WUR has achieved some big partnerships in several Digital Twin research programmes.
One to take note of is Lterlife. The challenge here is “to make ecology a predictive science”. If you would like to know more about our involvement, you can contact Ioannis Athanasiadis or Geerten Hengeveld. Another one is the Digital Twin for Water Management. The challenge here is to develop an operational Digital Twin for managing water treatment plants, water quality and drought. If you would like to know more about our involvement, you can contact Joost Iwema. In addition to these, more Digital Twin research is being conducted. For example, Oana Butuc (PhD) is researching Digital Twins of waste streams in Africa.
To keep the Digital Twin community alive, WDCC organised a Meetup on Digital Twins in May this year. Impulse was packed. We had Bedir Tekinerdogan (WUR) presenting Design Patterns for Digital Twins; Jeroen Broekhuisen (TNO) presenting the Biodiversity Digital Twin; Sjoerd Boersma (WUR) presenting the Digital Twin for Water Management and Ilona Kemerling and Joost Visschedijk (Arcadis) presenting Digital Twins for replacement and renovation of civil engineering structures.
